2019 CREATIVE WRITING CHALLENGE...WHAT'S YOUR STORY?

Brought to you by

So, you love to read books but do you think you could come up with an awesome story that others would love to read? If so, you need to enter the 2019 National Writing Challenge!

THE CHALLENGE:

Use your imagination and storytelling skills to create a short story of your own in no more than 500 words. It can be absolutely anything you like of course just as long as it comes from you. To assist you along the way, Penguin Random House have recruited three of Australia's most talented authors who will guide you through the storytelling process with tips and hints. These mentors will also judge the final winners in each of the following age categories:

MENTOR FOR AGE CATEGORY

7-8 YEARS.

ANDREW DADDO

When Andrew Daddo lost his head hair and replaced it with facial hair, he looked in the mirror and realised with a shock that he was a pirate. As in, he's spent his whole life searching for treasure and he's looked in some weird spots including TV shows, podcasts and as an author of books...nearly 30 of them! Andrew loves writing and can't wait to read some of your upcoming stories.

MENTOR FOR AGE CATEGORY

9-10 YEARS.

NAT AMOORE

So who is Nat Amoore?

1. Nat ran away to join the circus and became a trapeze artist!

2. Nat was on a reality TV show.

3. Nat and her buddies have a podcast all about kids' books.

4. Nat sometimes writes and directs movies.

5. Nat's secret superpower is making stuff up (but all of the above is true).

MENTOR FOR AGE CATEGORY

11-12 YEARS.

R.A. SPRATT

R.A. Spratt is the author of The Peski Kids, Friday Barnes and The Adventure of Nanny Piggins. In her previous life she was a television writer. Unlike the Peski Kids, R.A. Spratt never fights with her brother but only because he moved to Hong Kong to get away from her. R.A. lives in Bowral, NSW where she has three chickens, two goldfish and a dog. She also has a husband and two daughters!
